We are pleased to announce the reopening of the 54-bed nursing facility, Sharkey Issaquena Nursing Home, and to welcome full-time Speech Language Pathologist, Bob Black, SLP. Bob will be serving at the nursing home and our Outpatient Rehabilitation facility.
Steven Cole, President and CEO of Mid South, and Kim Rayburn, Central MS RCD of Mid South, recently had the opportunity to meet with Becky Coates, Sharkey Issaquena Hospital Administrator, Peggy Johnson, Sharkey Issaquena Nursing Home Administrator, and Jerry Keever, Sharkey Issaquena Hospital CEO. Together, they discussed operational strategies, staffing challenges, and marketing efforts to grow the Nursing Home and the Hospital Outpatient Program and to support the community by offering additional comprehensive therapy services. The Nursing Home, which reopened on September 2nd after a $5 million investment, is a testament to the strength and dedication of those involved in the Sharkey-Issaquena County community.
Mid South Rehab Services therapy teams at Sharkey Issaquena Outpatient Rehabilitation and Nursing Home treat a variety of conditions with comprehensive skilled services for physical, occupational, and speech therapy needs. At Sharkey Issaquena Outpatient Rehabilitation we treat pediatrics to geriatrics. We have not had a speech therapist since the tornado in March of 2023, so we are excited to add Bob Black, SLP, to our therapy teams at both locations.
Originally from Yazoo City, Bob received his Bachelor of Science in Speech and Hearing Sciences from the University of Southern Mississippi and a Master of Science in Communicative Disorders from Jackson State University. In addition, he was the recipient of a GEER scholarship at Jackson State University. Bob is especially interested in helping patients with expressive/receptive language, cognitive-communication, and children with special needs. During his spare time, he enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking, camping, and fishing. Bob and his wife Sara live in Jackson and are members of Bellwether Church.
Bob is joining an outstanding team at Sharkey Issaquena Nursing Home that includes Alicia Parker, OM/DOR; Martin Galas, RPT; Cecilia Escario, RPT; Johnny Wilson, OTR/L; and Misty Cotten, COTA/L. Our therapy team is highly trained and committed to individualized quality patient care. They will develop a therapy plan to benefit each patient’s personal goals.
